Terms of Service
Last updated: 17 October 2026
These terms apply when you use OperatingSystem.space. By using the site you agree to them. They cover the same points as the notice shown on your first visit, in more detail.
What this site is for
OperatingSystem.space runs historical operating systems and software in your browser with emulators, for education and the history of computing.
Ownership and trademarks
The operating systems and other software on this site remain the property of their copyright holders.
Microsoft, Windows, MS-DOS, Apple, Macintosh, Mac OS, IBM, OS/2 and all other product names, logos and trademarks belong to their owners and are shown only to identify each system. OperatingSystem.space is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.
No license for the software
Using a system here does not give you a license for it or for any software in it, and OperatingSystem.space cannot grant licenses for software it does not own. Software that comes with its own license, such as a free or open-source system, remains under that license.
Before any system starts, the site shows its license. For proprietary systems, it asks you to agree to use them only for education and the history of computing, for your personal, non-commercial use in the browser, without copying or redistributing their disk images. For open-source and freeware systems, it names their license.
Acceptable use
You are responsible for what you do here. Don't use these systems for anything malicious or illegal, such as attacking or scanning other computers, spreading malware, sending spam or getting into accounts that aren't yours. OperatingSystem.space does not support or condone any such use.
Please don't copy, download or redistribute the disk images and snapshots the site serves, and don't overload the site with automated requests.
Many of these systems are old and no longer get security updates. Don't sign in to real accounts or enter personal information in them.
No warranty
Everything is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. You use it at your own risk. The emulated systems can be slow, can stop working and can use a lot of your device's memory, and anything you create or save inside them can be lost at any time.
To the extent the law allows, OperatingSystem.space and the people who run it are not liable for any loss or damage that results from using the site or from not being able to use it.
Services run by others
- Mac systems run in Infinite Mac and load from infinitemac.org.
- iPhone OS runs on 2007.mobile.
- Systems marked Internet go online through a public relay run by a third party, Mercury Workshop's wisp relay. Their network traffic passes through it.
These services have their own terms and privacy practices, and OperatingSystem.space has no control over them.
Privacy
- The site keeps a few settings in your browser's local storage, such as whether you accepted the first-visit notice and which notices you chose not to see again. They stay on your device, and clearing this site's data in your browser removes them.
- Disk images you open with Boot custom ISO/IMG stay on your device and are not uploaded.
- Files you insert as a CD, and states you save or load, are handled entirely in your browser and are never uploaded.
- Like any website, the server that hosts this site receives the usual technical details of each request, such as your IP address and browser.
- Removal requests sent with the form below are stored on this site and emailed to the site owner, only to handle the request. Your IP address is not stored with them; to limit abuse, a one-way hash of it is kept for an hour.
Copyright and removal requests
If you own the rights to software or other material on this site, or act for the owner, and want it removed, send a request with this form. The site owner reviews each request, removes material that should not be here and may reply by email.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and the version on this page is the one that applies.
